Olympic curler pleads guilty to smuggling

A Canadian curling gold medalist arrested in Blaine in April pled guilty to counterfeit drug charges in a Seattle courtroom last week.
James Armstrong, 69, of Richmond, B.C., pled guilty to selling and dispensing counterfeit drugs with intent to defraud or mislead on Thursday, October 21, according to a Vancouver Sun article. Armstrong’s 28-year-old son Gregory pled guilty to similar charges.
The elder Armstrong was arrested in Blaine earlier this year after picking up a package containing counterfeit Viagra and Cialis from a post office box in the city. Canadian customs agents said they found about 2,500 fake Viagra pills and 260 fake Cialis pills that agents suspected Armstrong’s son planned to distribute in Vancouver-area nightclubs.
The pills were shipped from Los Angeles by way of China.
James Armstrong was a world-class curler until he was injured in a 2003 car accident. He started competitively curling in his wheelchair in 2007. Armstrong’s arrest came just one month after his team won gold in the Vancouver Paralympics.
